I have completed 4 years of advanced clinical psychotherapy training at The Berne Institute, and am now preparing for my MSc examination in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy and the award of CTA (Certified Transactional Analyst) which is accredited by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
I am also in Body Psychotherapy training with the Northern College of Body Psychotherapy in Cumbria and I am a member of Body Focus, a professional development group based in Knutsford.
I also have a counselling certificate and a foundation certificate in TA.
I have 27 years experience teaching in secondary education. I was a Head of Department for 10 years, and was also a Head of Year for nine years. I have considerable experience working with both adults and adolescents.
I have private clinical practices in Bolton, Worsley and Stockport, and work as a therapist in a Manchester Well Women's Centre, and a local independent school.
The model of therapy I use is called Transactional Analysis (TA)
TA is a theory of personality and interpersonal communications used to facilitate change and growth, promoting health for ourselves, working with individuals, couples, groups, organisations and in an educational setting.
It is a broad based "talking therapy" and though its roots lie in Freudian psychoanalysis, it draws upon several models including Gestalt and Rogerian person-centred counselling.
The philosophy of our approach is rooted in the beliefs:
I am a member of the Institute of Transactional Analysis (ITA) and the European Association for Transactional Analysis (EATA).
I adhere strictly to their code of Ethics for Professional Practice and am subject to their complaints procedure.
All Practice is supervised by a qualified trainer and supervisor.
